    Education Leadership Academy for Parents

The Education Leadership Academy for Parents provides tools and support to empower parents to advocate for school improvements and success for all students.

With the objectives of increasing parent-child interactions and improving child outcomes through parent involvement; Elementary and Middle school principals nominate parents to participate in the ELAP program. In order to expand the capacity of parents as change agents for children and families, and build communities of parents who will support one another to develop skills and take successful action for children. All nominated parents are asked to commit to monthly meetings throughout the school year. When parents have information, skills and organization support, they can partner with schools to create solutions.

African American Parent Support GroupAfrican American Family.

A Parent Alliance to support and advocate for academic success for African-American Children.

We believe all children can learn and parents and community members must be involved. We see evidence that African-American children are scoring lower than other children on state assessments in reading and math. Working together, we can make a difference and eliminate the achievement gap.

    Parent University

Significant studies show that when parents partner with the school in their children’s education, there is a positive impact on academic achievement. The Wichita Public Schools’ Parent University is designed to help parents to become more involved as academic coaches for their children, to strengthen parenting skills, and to improve parent-child relationships. Parent University is available free of charge to all parents of students attending USD 259 schools.
