  • 6th Grade Orientation
    Long before students reach 5th grade they are preparing for the move to Middle School. Increased individual responsibility for learning is just one thing parents will notice. Workshops can and should be developed to assist families in preparing for these changes. A list of books, videos, brochures and web sites are available from the PTR and the Parent Involvement Support Team. The exchange of information and workshops are helpful in making a smooth transition for the students and families.

    Red Chair
    The Red Chair is a middle school initiative to increase parent involvement by providing a special place for parents in the classroom. Every classroom should have red chair, provided through a partnership with the Kansas Health Foundation. Parents are to check in at the office, pick up a red chair visitor folder and badge and then visit any classroom they wish. They do not need to make an appointment or have a special reason for visiting. Parents are asked to fill out a short survey to leave in the offic.

  • Education Leadership Academy For Parents (ELAP)
    ELAP, a parent based group, whose main objective is school improvement and student success. The ELAP Mission is to develop parent leaders who partner with schools to improve academic achievements for all students. Trainings include leadership skills, meeting leading, diversity and communication skills. ELAP provides tools and support to empower parents to advocate for school improvement and success for all students.

    African-American Parent Support Group
    The African American Support Group is a parent alliance to support and advocate for academic success for African American children. The meetings are open to parents and community members who form an adult study/action group. The focus is on raising student achievement for African American students. The group meets on the 1st and 3rd Saturday to learn about USD 259, study the latest research and discuss ways to assist students to achieve. The AAPSG belief statement concludes with, “Working together, we can make a difference.
