Title 1 Parent Involvement

Title 1 is the nation’s largest federal assistance program for schools. The goal of Title 1 is to help every child get a high-quality education. Title 1 resources are directed toward students who need them most. Services may be provided at a public, charter, private or parochial school. Parents are an essential part of the Title 1 team. Therefore, it is important to be active in your Title 1 program. Start by attending the annual Title 1 Parent Advisory Council (PAC) meeting. It’s a great way to:

  • Learn more about Title 1 and your rights and responsibilities as a parent
  • Work with other parents and teachers
  • Begin to plan and carry out programs
  • Call the Title 1 office at 973-4677 to find out when the Title 1 Parent Advisory Council meeting will be held. As the parent of a child in a Title 1 school it is important to know that you have the right to:

  • Review the progress reports on your child and their school.
  • Request information about the qualifications of your child’s teacher.
  • Help decide if Title 1 is meeting your child’s needs, and offer suggestions for improvement.
  • Every Title 1 school has a parent involvement policy and a school-parent compact. The policy describes opportunities for parents to be involved. The school-parent compact states the goals and responsibilities of parents, students and schools.

Title 1 funds are used to:

    • Support students most in need of educational help (students do not have to meet income standards to qualify)
    • Set goals for improvement
    • Measure student progress using standards set in the state’s Title 1 plan
    • Develop programs that add to regular classroom instruction
    • Involve parents in all aspects of the program

    Title 1 funds can provide:

    • More teachers and Para educators
    • Additional support staff
    • More training for school staff
    • Computers and other classroom equipment
    • Materials and supplies
    • Parent involvement staff
    • Resources to support parent involvement

    Parent and Community Resource Specialist

Parent and Community Resource Specialists (PRCS) will develop capacity within school staffs to increase and improve parent involvement at each site. They will create, promote and present training modules for staff and parents which support the involvement of parents and community. PRCS will perform as members of specialized teams which provide assistance to schools in formulating and implementing parent and community actions plans that can be incorporated into Title 1 School Wide Plans and Campus Improvement Plans. Parent and Community Resource Specialists will network with other school district departments and community programs in order to be current on the services available to parents and students.
